Chelsea Square Residence

Chelsea Square, built in 1810 as the original Trafalgar Square and once attracting artists and later a public library, was redeveloped by the Cadogan Estate in the 1930s and renamed to avoid confusion with central London’s Trafalgar Square. Today, known for its neo-Georgian architecture and part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, it is one of the most expensive streets in the UK.
Reimagining the Formal Family Home
We were approached by our client who had previously engaged another design firm but was left dissatisfied with the results in several key areas of the home. Rive Gauche London was invited to reimagine the interiors of the main formal spaces and the master suite. The brief called for a design that would be both visually impressive and highly functional, catering to the lifestyle and needs of a large, young family.
A Sculptural Core for Gathering
The exquisite living room embodies the perfect blend of sophistication and classic modernity. Central to the design are the stunning eglomise mirrored feature walls, which reflect light to create an illusion of expanded space whilst adding a touch of timeless glamour. Above, a magnificent glass leaf chandelier catches the eye and enhances the room’s elegant atmosphere. This bespoke fixture not only illuminates the space but also serves as a striking piece of art, harmoniously tying together the room’s design elements.
Contemporary Classic Form
The furniture selection epitomises contemporary classic style, featuring clean lines and refined detailing. Rich tones of burgundy dominate the colour palette, infusing the room with a sense of warmth and luxury. This deep, inviting hue is artfully balanced by light seating, which provides a refreshing contrast and keeps the space feeling airy and welcoming. Complementing the burgundy accents, plush textures and high-quality materials are used throughout, ensuring both comfort and style. The carefully curated decor, from sophisticated throw pillows to understated yet elegant accessories, adds layers of interest and depth. The centrepiece of this room is a beautifully crafted coffee table showcasing exquisite hand-crafted marquetry with mother of pearl embellishments.
The Dining Area
The dining room is anchored by a magnificent rosewood dining table with brass detailing. This piece is surrounded by plush seating in contrasting light coloured fabric over a dark American Walnut frame. The walls feature eglomise mirrored underlit shelving, reflecting the room’s luxurious elements and creating a sense of depth and grandeur. The subtle lighting from these shelves adds a modern touch, enhancing the overall atmosphere with a soft, ambient glow. Another striking glass chandelier hangs overhead, this time over the dining area. This luminous centrepiece beautifully complements the room’s aesthetic, adding a touch of glamour and refinement. The dark wood parquet floors provide a rich foundation, their classic pattern and deep tones grounding the room and adding a layer of warmth and texture. This luxurious flooring contrasts beautifully with the satin brass specialist finish to feature elements such as the dining room architraves.
