Given the pedigree of its location and branding, The Lucan’s interior design needed to be something special too, and as the chosen designers, we sought to echo the grandiose, architectural heritage of the area’s Victorian mansions in this new building while bringing modernity to the residences, each of which has been individually designed.

Key to the design, for us, was to create beautiful homes that have a sense of place. Their owners will most likely have multiple homes all over the world, and while they want the convenience and sense of continuity that comes with a residence that’s managed and serviced by global luxury brand, they also want to feel a connection to a particular location.

How did we achieve this through design? First impressions will be made on stepping into the reception whose high coffered ceiling and tall, marble skirting and fabric-clad walls embody the grandeur that people expect of Chelsea. It has a welcoming and intimate feel too, however, with bespoke furnishings, artwork and layers of lighting.

Inside the apartments, the design is modern, but always warm and inviting. Take the ceilings in the reception room, which we have raised and outlined with a shadowgap detail and a coffer clad in warm-fluted timber that reflects the glow of the uplit LEDs.

With the master bathrooms, we thought of a jewellery box. The eye is immediately drawn to the mosaic floor, the statement feature that combines three types of marble within a contrasting border. This pattern is subtly echoed in the bespoke geometric shower door handles we have created, and then contrast comes with the French-inspired, suspended vanity unit, with its delicate elegance.

One other space we want to draw your attention to is the residents’ gym, which is located in the basement so it needed maximum light. We designed a light box ceiling that casts an uplifting, even light across the whole room, and we have kept the materials raw and simple, with travertine stone and timber panelling. This space needs to be beautiful, too, akin to the sort of gym you would find in a standalone super-prime home, so we have included weights on display that are as decorative as they are functional.

The Lucan will set the tone for modern, luxury living in Chelsea, while paying homage to the classic design that has made the location globally desirable.
